About Günter Beer

Günter Beer lives in Barcelona. He is a photographer, reporter and chronicler. Germany's most prestigious food magazine "Der Feinschmecker", for which he has been photographing for 16 years, writes about him: "His life reads like an adventure novel". In 1982, he accompanied Joseph Beuys on the "7000 Oaks" project, was a reporter for the "Jornal do Brasil" in Rio de Janeiro and a border crosser between the Sandinistas and the Contras during the civil war in Nicaragua. Günter Beer sat in the mud of the gold panners in Venezuela, reported from US military laboratories on the decoding of human genetic material, photographed fashion in Mexico Mallorca and on the Matterhorn.

In 1994, he photographed 255 specialties throughout Europe in 180 days for Könemann Verlag. Since then, work on more than 40 international cookbooks, including two books with cooking genius Eckart Witzigmann, have trained his culinary eye.

In 2008 Günter Beer founded and curated the International Food Photography Festival, which was held in Tarragona, Spain in 2010/2011 and in Veijle, Denmark in 2015/2016/2017/2019.

In 2009, Günter Beer began to publish his own cookbook productions as apps for the iPhone and iPad. His app "The Cooks Encyclopedia" was App of the Year 2011 in the Apple App Store. His app "GoVeggie" has been named App of the Year 2012 in the Apple App Store. In 2021 he founded the startup for a mobile order and pay webshop called OIDO.
